Two Upper Peninsula fire departments are about to get a boost.

Sugar Island Township Fire Department and Norway Volunteer Fire Department will each receive a grant to help pay for new trucks.

Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin announced Tuesday the Sugar Island Township Fire Department will receive $208,696.  Norway will receive $237,500.  The grants were provided by the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program which allows fire departments from all over the country to compete for grants in several different categories.

The Sugar Island and Norway Departments competed in the Vehicle Acquisition program, which helps departments pay for equipment like pumps, rescue vehicles and tankers.
