Manistique man charged with attempted murder

A 58-year-old Manistique man is charged with attempted murder after allegedly assaulting a 31-year-old woman.

The Manistique Public Safety Department says the incident happened Monday at a home at 651 Garden Avenue.  A man had allegedly assaulted a woman causing severe lacerations to her throat.

Police say the woman had gone to a home at 631 Michigan Avenue seeking assistance for the treatment of her wounds and an ambulance was called.  She was transported to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The names of the victim and suspect are being withheld until formal charges are issued by the Schoolcraft County Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect is lodged in jail under no bond conditions and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in 93rd District Court.

The Manistique Public Safety Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police and the Sault Tribal Police Department.
