Two Chippewa County men, including a Sault Ste. Marie City Commissioner, arrested on child porn charges

Two Chippewa County men, one of them a Sault Ste. Marie City Commissioner, are waiting to return to court after being arrested this weekend on child pornography charges.

Jeffery Stefanski, 45, a Sault Ste. Marie City Commissioner, is charged with five counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and one count of furnishing alcohol to a minor.  He is out of jail on a $2,000 bond.

Jason Bumstead, 25, is charged with seven counts of production of child sexual abusive material.  He is in the Chippewa County Jail on a $10,000 bond with tether.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office says the two arrests were made on unrelated complaints after separate investigations.

Both Bumstead and Stefanski will appear in 91st District Court next month for preliminary exams.

UPDATE: Jason Bumstead’s case has since been dropped.
