Menominee County man sentenced to federal prison for assaulting girlfriend

A Menominee County man will spend five years in federal prison after assaulting his girlfriend last year.

Peter Meshigaud, 23, of Wilson was sentenced as a habitual offender for domestic assault in U.S. District Court in Marquette.  He is ordered to pay over $1,000 in restitution to the Hannahville Indian Community Housing Department.  Meshigaud’s previous criminal history includes two prior domestic assaults, malicious destruction of property, and assault and battery.

A press release from the Department of Justice states Meshiguad assaulted his live-in girlfriend at a residence on the reservation in October 2013.  He punched his girlfriend in the face, back of the head, and body, causing injuries that required medical attention.

The Hannhaville Indian Community Tribal Police and the FBI investigated the case.
