Houghton’s Jurmu leads North past South

Houghton’s Elisa Jurmu capped off a stellar high school career on the court on Saturday at the Girls’ 29th annual U.P. All-Star Classic basketball
game in St. Ignace. Jurmu scored a game high 31 points in a 75-72 win for the North team. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the game.

The South led at 39-29 at the half. Superior Central’s Vanessa Freberg scored 24 points to lead the South team. Freberg was one of three players on the South team to score in double figures. Forest Park’s Kendra Campbell had 18 and Kelley Wright of St. Ignace had 12. Jurmu was the only player to score in double figures for the North team.

The 2015 U.P. All-Star Classic basketball games will move from St. Ignace to Marquette.
