Fayette Historic State Park surfs into summer
The official start of summer is just around the corner, but residents of Garden couldn’t wait. They kicked off summer over the weekend.
They surfed into summer with their annual June event sponsored by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Parks and Recreation Division. The free event at Fayette Historic State Park welcomed one and all on Saturday.
“There is the food trailer, we have planko, a minnow race, we have a sucker tree, face painting, balloon darts and we have three bouncy houses,” Lori Taylor-Blitz of the Michigan DNR said.
“We first went on the bouncy houses which was fun, a lot of fun. Then we started walking around everywhere looking for golden tickets,” said Jaci Villafania, 11.
It’s just a nice time to enjoy yourself, kick back and relax and just play. It’s fun,” said Anna Vanworner, 11.
“Doing all the objects and bouncing in the bouncy house,” said Grace Vanwormer, 7.
“All around today you could look for golden tickets and you had to do all these things and then you would win a T-shirt,” said Casey Gembel, 8.
“I found the golden ticket in the sand castle practice contest,” Braedon Thill said.
Plenty of hot dogs were on the grill, and just a recreational vehicle pass was needed to enter the park for ‘Surfin’ Into Summer’.
