Photos: Minnesota man scores a ‘Hole-In-One’ on Hole #7 at Heritage
Some calculations say the chances of an average golfer making a hole in one are approximately 12,500 to 1. This afternoon, a Minnesota man visiting family in the U.P. beat all odds at Marquette Golf Club’s Heritage Course.
A Minnesota man, visiting family in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, is said to have scored a Hole-in-One on Marquette County’s Heritage Par 3 #7. Dan Lorinser, brother of Marquette resident and physician Bob Lorinser, was golfing Friday afternoon when the rarity happened.
According to Golf World Magazine the odds of a hole in one are very rare. Actuaries have calculated the chance of an average golfer making a hole in one at approximately 12,500 to 1, and the odds of a tour professional at 2,500 to 1. Among the memorable holes in one, one occurred in the 1973 British Open by Gene Saraze at the age of 71.
“I did it for my son Tyler,” said Lorinser, “as it’s his birthday today!”
Lorinser’s epic shot was witnessed by four of his golfing friends. After a round of 18, he celebrated on social media and with a round of locally brewed beer at Blackrocks Brewery in Marquette.
