Lady Lions land U.P. basketball standout

Hancock, MI – Finlandia University women’s basketball coach Terry Klemett has announced that Julia Daavettila of Dollar Bay, Michigan has committed to continue her education and basketball career at Finlandia University in the 2014-2015 season.
Daavettila, a 5’9” forward, led the Bays to their first outright Copper Country Conference title since 1979 and District title since 1983. In her senior season, she averaged 17.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3.1 assists per game. She was named to the first-team all-conference and conference MVP in the Copper Country Conference. Julia was also named to the All-UP Class D second team.
“Julia is a total package basketball player; she handles the ball, shoots, passes, and her instincts are two or three steps ahead,” said Coach Klemett. “She is a proven winner and is extremely competitive. She will be a great addition to my team; I am very excited to have her.”
