Carmike Royal 10 Cinema in Marquette will close

The summer blockbuster season has finally arrived with the likes of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, but the future doesn’t look very bright for moviegoers in Marquette.

Carmike Cinemas district officials say the Royal 10 location on O’Dovero Drive is set to close. There have been rumors circulating about the possible closure for weeks.

Our contact was not able to pin down an exact date, but some have suggested it could be as soon as early June.

The Carmike Royal 10 has been a mainstay in Marquette since 1994. It was one of the few locations, aside from the Delft, to show recent releases on the big screen.  But with the Thomas Theatre Group’s new state-of-the-art cinema opening in Marquette Township less than two weeks ago, there will still be a venue for film buffs to get their fix.
