Georgia woman arrested after high-speed chase near Hancock

A 22-year-old Georgia woman is in jail after taking police on a high-speed chase that reached speeds of 85 mph in Houghton County.

Troopers from the Calumet Post of the Michigan State Police say they attempted a traffic stop in Hancock because the woman allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and was not wearing a seat belt.  Troopers say the woman fled northbound on U.S. 41 for several miles until they used a P.I.T. (Pursuit Intervention Technique) to stop the vehicle near Mesnard Loc.

The suspect was arrested without incident and is charged with fleeing/eluding police.

Troopers were assisted by the Hancock, Laurium, and Calumet Police Departments.
