Police are blocking off a street in Ishpeming tonight because a man suspected in a domestic situation will not come out of his girlfriend’s house.

Ishpeming City Police and Ishpeming Township Police have been blocking off Hewitt Street between Jopling Street and Duncan Avenue for the majority of the day.

Ishpeming City Police Chief Dan Willey tells ABC 10 that a woman was allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend in her home. He said the woman was able to get out of the house unharmed, and call for help. The man in question is still inside.

Chief Willey said they are keeping people away from the area while they wait for additional police personnel to arrive from as far away as southern Michigan, near the Ohio state line.

Police called in a front-end loader around 8:30 p.m., but the vehicle left the scene about a half an hour later.

EMS personnel are standing by.

ABC 10 will continue to provide updates as they become available.
