Don’t Do It Yourself, better known as DDIY, hosted the Folk and Food Fest this past weekend at the Dee Stadium in Houghton.

All donations collected at the event help support members of the community who need help with unexpected medical bills.

“The idea came from a group of people who have attended fundraisers to help people with their financial hardship during a medical crisis. We just thought what a great idea to form something that these people can come to for some immediate relief,” DDIY President Kristina Coon said.

Vendors were set up around the room with different arts and crafts from all over the Copper Country.  There was also a table that featured a beverage called mead, which is made with fermented honey and water and adding things like fruits, spices or hops.

Sew Sisters was also present at the event with some great deals.

“Right now we have dresses marked down at low prices. We have 10, 20, 30 and even wedding dresses for $65 here to support DDIY and 50% of the proceeds are going to go to the DDIY fund,” Amy Sannes from Sew Sisters said.

Eagle Rock Studio, which is four miles west of Copper Harbor, had a display that featured beautiful photography and elegant kitchenware.

“I mostly paint on glass as you can see. I use paints that are especially for glass and china,” Gail English said.  “I fire them on and everything is washable and meant to be used very functional.”

A silent auction was also held to benefit DDIY.

With a turnout like this, you can be sure this event will be back next year.
