Michigan was the first state in the Midwest to legalize medical marijuana. Several cities in Michigan have decriminalized the possession of marijuana with some success. State legislators in Colorado and Washington have legalized and regulated marijuana entirely. Opponents of the decriminalization effort are concerned that legal prescriptions by pharmacies and real doctors are already being undermined by recreational users taking advantage of medical marijuana legislation.
