A call for Blueberry Festival poster contest submissions

It seems spring will get little love this year as winter overstayed its welcome and we’re already planning for summer events.

One such event is the annual Blueberry Festival, held in downtown Marquette, and the Downtown Development Authority is calling on local artists for entries to this year’s poster contest.

“So the posters can be designed, really, in any direction that the artist wants to take them, whether they want it to be a depiction of the festival or just an interesting picture of blueberries. We really are open to a variety of different entries and like I said it’s a public vote so ultimately it’s the public that decides,” Marquette DDA Marketing and Administrative Assistant Lizzie Corser said.

Entries are due by Friday, May 2 and the winner will be selected by a combination of a public online vote and a panel consisting of local business owners, artists and public officials. The winning design will be printed on all promotional material for the festival and the winning artist will receive one hundred fifty dollars in gift certificates to downtown businesses.

The Blueberry Festival will be held on Friday, July 25.

Rules and guidelines for the poster contest are available on the DDA’s website.
