Third man sentenced in Schoolcraft County cougar killing case

The third man accused of killing a cougar in Schoolcraft County pled no contest in court Monday.

Todd Anthony Richard, 42, of Burt, was sentenced to 30 days in jail on one count of taking, possessing, buying, or selling an endangered species.

Richard will forgo his jail sentence because he paid his court fines and costs.  He was also sentenced to complete 24 hours of community service within 30 days.

Richard and two other men, Troy Richard and Theodore Richard, allegedly killed a cougar in December.

Troy, 42, was sentenced to 30 days in jail, 24 months probation and 120 hours of community service.  Theodore, 68, was sentenced to 24 months probation and his hunting privileges are revoked for two years.
