Former Huskies goalie joins ECHL team

Former Michigan Tech goaltender Phoenix Copley has joined the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League. Copley signed a two-year, entry level contract with the Washington Capitals earlier this month.

The Stingrays clinched their spot in the playoffs last night by defeating the Florida Everblades, 6-5. Copley entered the game in the third period. He stopped 11 shots in relief, earning his first professional win.

Copley is teammates with former Northern Michigan University forward Stephan Vigier. Copley will join the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League for the 2014-15 season.
