Investigation into Sunnyside Estates home invasion continues

A 26-year-old Ishpeming man has been released from the hospital after cutting his hand during a home invasion at the Sunnyside Estates in Ishpeming Monday night.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police responded to a call regarding the incident around 10:30 p.m. Police say the initial report indicated that a man covered in blood was attempting to break into numerous trailers that he did not live in. Troopers arrived on scene and found the suspect intoxicated with an apparent cut on his hand. The home was then cleared for Bell EMS personnel, who stabilized the suspect and transported him to Bell Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was released from the hospital later that night.

An investigation revealed that the suspect was at another trailer in Sunnyside Estates earlier in the evening. Police say the man in question allegedly forced his way into the trailer of a 42-year-old Ishpeming woman and a 36-year-old Ishpeming man. An altercation involving a knife ensued, leaving the suspect with a cut hand. The 26-year-old man then stopped at several trailers on the way back to his residence in an attempt to receive first aid.

The incident remains under investigation and is pending review by the Marquette County Prosecutor. No arrests have been made at this time.

The Negaunee Post was assisted on scene by the Ishpeming Police Department.
