UPDATE: Snowy roads cause massive pileup accident in Negaunee

Tuesday at 12:45 p.m.

Overnight snow in Marquette County gave way to a massive pileup accident in Negaunee Township.

Eighteen cars could be seen lining the eastbound side of U.S. 41 shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Troopers from the Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police say it all started around 8:45 a.m. due to icy road conditions. Negaunee City Police and Michigan State Troopers rerouted eastbound traffic heading out of Negaunee down Maas Street until about 10:30 a.m. while wreckers cleared the area.

Three minor injuries were reported. No citations have been issued at this time, however the crash remains under investigation.

Tow trucks from Antilla’s Towing and Whistlers Garage were on hand to assist in removing vehicles that were disabled in the incident. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division of the MSP assisted at the scene.

Overnight snow in Marquette County may have given way to a massive pileup accident in Neguanee.

At least 10 cars could be seen lining the eastbound side of U.S. 41 shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Negaunee City Police and Michigan State Troopers are still on scene directing traffic through the crash site. Traffic heading out of Negaunee is being rerouted down Maas Street until wreckers have cleared the area. The first six cars have been removed from the scene.

No word yet as to how many cars were involved, and how many people were injured in the ordeal.
