Woman must complete substance abuse program to avoid jail time

A 23-year-old Delta County woman was sentenced Wednesday on a prescription drug charge.

Jacquette Wera’s sentence of six months in jail will be suspended if she completes a substance abuse program.  Her court fines total almost $700.

Wera was arrested in January by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team in January and was charged with two counts of delivery of a schedule 1, 2, or 3 controlled substance.

U.P.S.E.T. detectives say the substance was Suboxone, a drug used to treat narcotic addiction.
