Anyone looking to beat the winter blues can enjoy some art and antique shopping in Ishpeming starting Wednesday.

Plans have been in the works since last summer to combine art and antiques at the Old Gossard Building in downtown Ishpeming.  The event features vendors from four antique stores and work from 14 artists across Marquette County.

“And some artists that I worked with in Marquette, and they had a publication called ‘Art and Antiques’ and it was just lovely the way it was put together,” curator of the event Renee Michaut said. “What we decided we would do is pull together artists from Marquette (County) west, along with a variety of antique dealers and we would stage a themed show in the winter when people are getting tired of the cold, and boy did we hit it.”

The Old Gossard Building is in the process of being restored, and it was the perfect setting for an event like this.

“It’s a historic building, and the owners Paul and Sandy Arsenault are big supporters of the arts and antiques and they’ve opened their doors and welcomed us and it’s been fantastic,” Michaut said. “The historical society is upstairs and (so are) other businesses, so we’re really coming together, and it’s been a wonderful cohesion of people involved.

Shoppers can find everything from old jewelry and furniture to paintings and other artwork.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m through Saturday.
