UPDATE: Name released in fatal snowmobile accident on Pine Mountain Road

Police have released the name of the snowmobile driver who was found dead on the side of the road in Dickinson County early Sunday morning.

Officers from the Iron Mountain Post of the Michigan State Police say that 37-year-old Chad Schlenvogt of Port Washington, Wisconsin, was traveling northbound on the west side of Pine Mountain Road. It appeared that Schlenvogt attempted to cross back onto Pine Mountain Road and struck the guard rail on the west side of the road, causing the snowmobile to overturn. Schlenvogt was ejected from the vehicle and died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Troopers from the Iron Mountain Post of the Michigan State Police responded to the scene around 2 a.m. Sunday morning on Pine Mountain Road near Lucas Road in Breitung Township. A passerby found Schlenvogt on the shoulder of the road unresponsive after making several attempts to revive him.

Police say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash. Michigan State Police are continuing to investigate the accident.

Kingsford Public Safety and Integrated First Response Ambulance assisted at the scene.
