Man facing charges after crashing into snowbank
A Palmer man who was found sitting idling behind the wheel of a running vehicle on the side of County Road 581 in South Ely Township two weeks ago is facing multiple criminal charges.
Karl Hemmila, 44, has been arraigned in Marquette County District Court on one felony count of police officer assault, and one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, his second offense.
The charges stem from a February 13 incident, in which Hemmila lost control of his vehicle, hit a mailbox, and ended up in a snowbank. Police say a passerby who reported the crash suspected Hemmila may have been under the influence of alcohol.
Hemmila will be back in court on March 4 for preliminary exam and pretrial hearing.
