Olympic run ends for Baumgartner in quarterfinals

Iron River native Nick Baumgartner’s bid to win a medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi unfortunately came to an end after his first run on the course on Tuesday.

In the quarterfinals of the men’s snowboardcross event, Baumgartner finished in fourth place. The top three riders from that flight moved on to the semifinals. The men’s snowboardcross had to scrap qualifying after a heavy fog delayed the event by a day.

This was Baumgartner’s second trip of the Olympic games. He qualified for the Winter Olympic games in Vancouver back in 2010. He is a two time X-Games medal winner (2011 gold medal, 2012 silver medal) in the snowboardcross event.
