Former volunteer hockey coach sentenced for sexual conduct with student

A former volunteer with the Houghton High School hockey team has been sentenced on fourth degree criminal sexual conduct charge.

Brad Aldrich, 30, was sentenced to nine months in Houghton County Jail on criminal sexual conduct charges stemming from his alleged involvement with a male student at the school between the ages of 16 and 18. Aldrich will be given credit for 59 days served.

After he serves time, Aldrich will be under probation for five years and required to apply as a registered sex offender. Under the terms of his probation, Aldrich is prohibited from coming within 1,000 feet of any school or school function that involves minors including athletic events.

He is also to stay at least 500 feet away from the victim’s home and to not make any contact with the victim, directly or indirectly. Aldrich was ordered to pay restitution, as well. Neither the victim nor the family of the victim were present in court.
