Man arrested after possible suicide attempt

The Michigan State Police are seeking charges against a Skandia man who, after a possible suicide attempt, was found to have several outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police were sent to a 36-year-old man’s residence early Monday morning on Yalmer Road in Skandia Township.  Troopers say they were told the suspect had shotgun, was at large behind the residence, and may have shot himself.

Upon arriving, troopers followed footprints to an unoccupied residence that the suspect had allegedly broken into.  They made contact with the man inside and talked him into coming out of the residence peacefully.

The man was taken into custody without incident.

An investigation revealed the suspect had outstanding warrants for his arrest.  Troopers say they will be seeking prosecution on several felony charges.

The suspect is currently at Marquette General Hospital for psychiatric evaluation and pends clearance to be lodged at the Marquette County Jail.
