Water main breaks continue in Ishpeming

Nine water main breaks have hit Ishpeming since the beginning of the year leaving many residents with frozen water lines.

City officials are urging residents to run their faucets at full flow for five minutes several times per day in an attempt to avoid pipes from freezing.

Other suggestions include filling up three to five one–gallon plastic jugs with fresh tap water.  If lines do freeze, this water could provide drinking water or it can be used for other household emergencies.

“We want to make sure that anyone who has a problem, if their water seems really cold to them or if they see some ice trickles, they should call us right away, so we can get to it before it gets bad,” Ishpeming City Manager Mark Slown said.
