Arizona man suffers possible leg fracture in snowmobile accident

Snowmobile

An Arizona man sought treatment for a suspected leg fracture Saturday after crashing his snowmobile into a tree.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 2:30 p.m. on Trail 113, about a 1/8 mile south of M-69 in Crystal Falls. Gerard Schira, 54, of Chandler, Arizona was traveling north on the trail when lost control of his snowmobile and collided with a tree. Schira was taken to Northstar Health System for a possible leg fracture. Police say Schira had not been drinking, however excessive speed was a contributing factor.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Law Enforcement Division of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Northstar EMS.
