SAIL Chocolate Festival this Sunday

sailChocolate lovers will be able to help a nonprofit group this weekend in Marquette while satisfying their palates.

The Superior Alliance for Independent Living is holding its fifth annual Chocolate Festival this Sunday. Area restaurants, bakeries and chocolatiers will present their delicious treats and desserts.

“We’ve got Midtown Bakery, (the) Marquette Food Co–Op, Donckers, the Wild Rover, Econo Foods, Super One; we’ve got 10 vendors,” SAIL program director Jessica Manier said. “Simply Superior is co–sponsoring with us, the Northern (Michigan University) catering division.”

The festival will also have drinks, door prizes, silent auction items and live music. The organizers think a chocolate-based fundraiser is a perfect complement to Valentine’s Day.

“The proceeds from the event go back to our recreation program, our SPAR Program, our Single Point for Activities and Recreation,” Manier said. “All the proceeds go back to help our consumers with kayaking, movie nights, fishing, hand cycling.”

The Chocolate Festival takes place this Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at NMU’s University Center. Tickets are $10 per person or $25 for a family. They’re available at the SAIL offices on Wright Street in Marquette.
