NMU student-made goods go to market
Creativity in the minds of college students is allowing some NMU Wildcats to earn a little bit of extra cash. The university’s Wildcat Market offers student-made goods for purchase.
Every Friday, the Student Center Atrium is transformed into a walk-through marketplace full of handmade inspirations created by students. You’ll find unique items like floppy disc coasters, scrabble rings and other trinkets, all student-made and sold.
The event is put on by the Associated Students of Northern Michigan University to give undergrads some hands on business experience. Some students put hobby items up for sale; others created pieces specifically for the marketplace. One in particular had an unusual twist on cupcakes.
“My favorite is the mashed potatoes and gravy and the peas and carrots and try to have a little fun with the snowmen and kids love the gummy worms,” student crafter Cassandra Evers said.
“We were just crafting on our own and we just wanted an outlet. This fuels us to make new stuff as well,” student crafter Alex Nye said.
The Wildcat Market is open every Friday from noon until 4 p.m in the Student Center, and anyone is welcome. Students still interested in displaying their crafts can email asnmu@nmu.edu for an application.
