Noquemanon needs volunteers

The Noquemanon Ski Marathon is just days away, and the race needs volunteers. Organizers say another successful year is on the horizon for the 16th annual event, and with the event’s popularity, more volunteers are needed.

The three-day event takes place this weekend and kicks off at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming. In addition to skiing, the event will also include snowshoeing, snow biking, skijoring and the Junior Noque. Chip timing technology will be used for many of the events.

“We are looking for volunteers to do packet pickup, start races, and also help with the finish line, bag pickup and chip distribution,” Noquemanon Trail Network executive director Nicole Dewald said. “The best thing about volunteering is to help the racers to help the participants and show your support. The finish line at the Superior Dome is a wonderful place to volunteer, as is the Friday night expo, and everyone is so excited about the event.”

About 500 volunteers are needed in the following areas:

— On Friday: registration, chip and hat distribution and bag pickup.

— On Saturday: chip takers, awards helpers and Dome runners.

— On Sunday: road closings, race chip takers and cleanup crew members.
