History Center swinging back to 1940s

The Marquette Regional History Center is encouraging people to step back through time this weekend to the 1940s.

The center is launching its “Saturdays at the Center” series for the year this Saturday with an event called “Swing Back To The ’40s.” It includes a swing dance demonstration and a chance to meet local Winter Carnival queens from over the years.

“We’ll actually have some veterans here on Saturday to share a couple of stories,” History Center educator Betsy Rutz said. “For instance, a gentleman from the (Army) 10th Mountain Division, as we have on display here an exhibit about the 10th Mountain Division. Boys from the U.P. took part in that in World War II.”

Toys, fashions and even wartime memorabilia like ration books will be on display.

“Swing Back To The ’40s” is taking place from 11 until 2 on Saturday. The event is included in the price of regular admission to the History Center.
