Fundraiser held to help family displaced by fire

Friends and family of the Katona family gathered at the Ore Dock Brewing Company to raise funds for the family after their house was destroyed in a New Year’s Day Fire in Marquette.

The fundraiser had raffle prizes, a silent auction, food, and music to help Andrea and her three-year-old son, Mattyx.

Family and friends said it doesn’t matter how much money is raised, they just wanted to do something to help.

“Marquette is really an amazing community, when something happens to someone everyone just comes together and really helps out,” Nicole Corne, a friend of the Katonas said.  “Most of the people who are here are friends, family, and just general people in the community.  Hopefully we’ll get a lot of people hearing the music downstairs that just came to the Ore Dock tonight (Wednesday), and they come upstairs, help, and donate money.”

“If you could see her (Andrea’s) three-year-old son (Mattyx) you’d want to throw a fundraiser for him too.  His blue eyes and he’s just so adorable…and it really breaks your heart when a family loses their whole home.”

The Katonas are living with family right now, but are hoping with the money raised tonight they can start to rebuild their lives.
