Marquette Farmer’s Market planning underway

The Marquette Farmers Market was a huge success this summer.  The market had 42 season vendors and 36 daily vendors in 2013.

Organizers are getting a jump on things and are in the planning stages for this years’ Farmers Market, holding a series of community meetings in the form of focus groups to get opinions on improving  the experience.

Proposed changes are to make the program more convenient for customers and effortless for vendor participation.

Every aspect of the planning was discussed from vendor fees, start times, and even the possibility of a winter market.

“There is much more demand than supply of the spaces, and we were fortunate enough to receive a small grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to make some modifications to the common site itself to help accommodate additional vendors,” Executive Director of the Marquette Downtown Development Authority Mona Lang said.  “We want to make sure that the market is sustainable, that it’s strong, and to make sure that we are on track.”

There are two more meetings–Wednesday, January 15 at 6 p.m. and Thursday, January 16 at 8 a.m.–where the public can voice opinions.  Both meetings will be held at the Marquette Commons.
