Possible Sault meth lab found

An investigation is ongoing into what may have once been a meth lab discovered by police in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement Team says they carried out a search warrant early last night at a duplex on Andary Street. One unit in the duplex is home to an area Head Start program. An employee smelled a strong chemical odor coming from the other unit.

After the SANE team was called in and obtained a warrant, officers seized drug paraphernalia and other evidence of meth manufacture. SANE says no active or inactive meth lab was present, but they believe a lab had once been there.

The resident of the duplex unit was not home when the search took place. SANE says arrest warrants will be sought. The Sault Ste. Marie City Police assisted at the scene.
