NMU’s Newell earns GLIAC award
Northern Michigan University men’s basketball forward Justin Newell has been named the GLIAC North Player of the Week. Newell led the Wildcats to a pair of GLIAC wins last week against Tiffin and Ohio Dominican.
The junior from Milwaukee, Wis. scored a career high 27 points against Tiffin on Jan. 2. He led NMU in scoring again on Jan. 4 with 16 points against Ohio Dominican. Newell is averaging 14.1 points per game, while shooting 44.7 percent from three-point range.
Newell and the Wildcats play at Ashland against the Eagles on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
