No injuries in fire that heavily damaged Marquette house

A home in Marquette was heavily damaged in an early New Year’s Day fire, but all of the occupants were able to get out of the home safely.

The Marquette Fire Department responded to 535 E. Michigan at 4:33 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the fire was evident on three sides of the structure.

A fire suppression team entered and was able to control the fire in 40 minutes.  Fire crews remained on scene, extinguishing remaining hotspots until about 12:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The 17 Marquette firefighters were assisted on scene by Marquette Police, Marquette Township Fire, Marquette Public Works,  MGH 141, Marquette Board of Light and Power, Semco Energy, and the American Red Cross.
