Ishpeming School District earns high ranking

Ishpeming High School has had a lot to celebrate lately.

The football team won the state championship for the second year in a row, and now the district is celebrating an academic victory.

U.S. News and World Report has named Ishpeming High School as one of the top High Schools in the state of Michigan.

Out of more than 800  public schools, Ishpeming ranked 49th.  The district is No. 2 in the Upper Peninsula and No. 1 in Marquette County.

“That’s just a wonderful template for us, a shining star, a beacon of great hope that we can show how well our teachers are doing and how well our students are performing from grade K-12,” Ishpeming School District Interim Superintendent Daniel Paul said.  “We are really working as a team, so hats off to all of them.”

The schools were judged in three areas: how well the district served all of its students–not just those who are college bound, how well the least–advantaged students were doing in reading and math, and on college readiness performance, a program that offers college level courses at high schools.
