Marquette County in search of a new Sheriff

There will be a new Sheriff in Marquette County when February rolls around next year.

Anyone who is qualified for the position that wants to be considered for appointment should send a letter of application along with a resume to the office of the Marquette County Clerk by December 15th. The Honorable Probate Judge Cheryl L. Hill, Prosecuting Attorney Matthew Wiese, and County Clerk Peter Dishnow will choose a select number of candidates from the pool of submissions for private interviews. An announcement will be made by the panel as soon as the position has been filled. The selected candidate will be sworn in as Sheriff on February 1, 2014.

In November, Marquette County Sheriff Mike Lovelace announced that he would be retiring at the end of January. Undersheriff Jack Schneider says he plans to apply. The temporary choice will hold the job until next November, when a special election will take place. The winner will then serve as sheriff until the November 2016 election, when Lovelace’s current term expires.
