“I Shop Local” kicks off Saturday to boost Delta Co. business economy
Shopping locally during the holidays, always an item of discussion during the holiday season, is taking on even more of an emphasis this year because of a new program being introduced by the Delta County Area Chamber of Commerce.
“I Shop Local” officially begins Saturday when participating stores will begin handing out “I Shop Local” stickers to shoppers.
Then shoppers, with cell phone in hand, will be asked to post a picture of themselves wearing the sticker on the Chamber Facebook page (facebook.com/DeltaCountyChamber) and list (tag) where they were shopping and why they believe it’s important to shop locally. Those doing so will be eligible to win $50 Chamber gift certificate for the previous week. The certificate may be used at any Chamber member. Drawings are scheduled for Dec. 9, Dec. 16 and Dec. 23, with the weekly winner’s name being posted on the Chamber Facebook page.
Shoppers who submit their “I Shop Local” photos and information will also be entered into a final drawing on December 23 for a super shopper goodie basket filled with items from participating stores.
“We want to drive shoppers to local stores and to our Facebook presence. This is a great and fun way to do both. Of course the bottom line is shoppers will find great deals on high-quality merchandise to put under their Christmas trees,” said Chamber Executive Director Vickie Micheau.
In addition to great deals, residents will also have a major, positive impact on the local economy, she said.
“Shopping locally has a positive, ripple effect throughout our entire county, helping keep people employed, keep stores in business and paying taxes to support our schools and local government services. Keep the money and jobs in Delta County,” Micheau said.
