2nd Annual “Hops for Help” underway through Sunday

The Ore Dock Brewing Company is getting ready for the 2nd annual Thanksgiving ‘Hops for Help’ campaign.

‘Hops for Help’ is an annual community fundraiser that takes place over the Thanksgiving weekend. Each year, a special release beer is brewed specifically for the event. This year, the offering is the “Direct Descendant,” a Belgian style copper ale. From the beer’s release on the Wednesday preceding Thanksgiving until the following Sunday, 50 cents of every pint sold will be donated directly to the St Vincent de Paul food pantry of Marquette – a food pantry responsible for allocating approximately $16,000 worth of goods per month.

Though successful in its first year, ‘Hops for Help’ was limited to sales directly within Ore Dock Brewery itself. This year, however, ‘Hops for Help’ has truly become a community wide event.

“It has always been a brewery goal that as we sustainably grow in production capacity, so too would our imprint as a functioning member of the community,” said Adam Robarge, Brewery Liaison at Ore Dock. “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with other downtown establishments for this year’s Hops for Help.”

The Landmark Inn, L’Attitude Café & Bistro, Stucko’s Pub & Grill, Breakers Roadhouse, and The Wild Rover will be serving this limited release beer and donating a portion of its sales along with Ore Dock over Thanksgiving weekend.

“It’s about community,” says Linda Lassing of The Wild Rover. “Benefiting from doing business in this great community, and creating opportunities to give back.”

The 2nd annual 2013 Thanksgiving ‘Hops for Help’ will take place Wednesday, November 27, through Sunday, December 1.
