Former U.P. resident wins on ‘Jeopardy!’

Wednesday’s episode of Jeopardy! featured a former Upper Peninsula resident and Northern Michigan University graduate Mary Beth Hammerstrom.  She was part of the Teacher’s Tournament competing for a spot in the finals.

Hammerstrom spent most of the evening in second place.  At one point she was tied with another contestant, but correctly answered a Daily Double and took the lead.

Hammerstrom won the competition by answering the final question correctly.  She won close to $29,601, and beat a contestant by $1.

She will compete Thursday and Friday in the two-day final for $100,000.

Jeopardy! airs on ABC 10 at 7 p.m.
