Two car accident in Marquette Township

Vehicle damaged after two-car accident in Marquette Township

Traffic was backed up on U.S. 41 in Marquette Township Wednesday afternoon following a two car accident.

The accident happened around 3:00 p.m. when a 2004 Buick LeSabre driven by 53-year-old Rosalie Carlson of Marquette failed to stop at traffic light on the corner of U.S. 41 and Commerce Drive in Marquette Township. Carlson’s vehicle was then struck by a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox traveling south on Commerce Drive. The Equinox was driven by 79-year-old Marilyn Niemi of Marquette. Niemi had one passenger in her vehicle, but no one in either vehicle was injured. Carlson was issued a citation for failing to stop at a stoplight.

One of the westbound lanes on U.S. 41 was closed as emergency crews responded to the accident.

Michigan State Police Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Marquette Township Fire Department, Marquette General Hospital EMS – Duke Life Point, and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department.
