One Book One Community author visits NMU

The Marquette County One Book One Community reading program is gaining followers. The book club encourages everyone to read one book and discuss the social issues the book raises.

Students and adults attended a question and answer session Monday at Northern Michigan University to hear one of the authors.

Karen Thompson Walker, author of The Age of Miracles was on hand to discuss her book.

Walkers says it took her four years to write the book.  She made sure she wrote every day, even if it was for just an hour.  She wrote at  home prior to leaving for work and on the way to work.

The Age of Miracles follows Julia, adolescent who wakes up one morning to find the Earth’s rotation has slowed.  Gravity, time, and events in Julia’s life are affected.  The book follows her difficulties and triumphs in adjusting to those changes.

Walker will also hold an autograph session at NMU in the University Center at 7:30 p.m.  The free event includes music, dancing, and poetry readings.
