Two teens plead for roles in high-speed chase

Two teenagers who took part in a high-speed chase through Mackinac County in a stolen vehicle made their pleas this afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Levi Hamilton pled guilty in Mackinac County Circuit Court to one five-year felony count of “fleeing and eluding police,” and one misdemeanor count of “driving recklessly” in the incident, which occurred earlier this month. Hamilton will be sentenced for both charges in Circuit Court on November 21st.

One of the passengers, 17-year-old Vance Demorest, pled not guilty to multiple charges which include two five-year felonies for “attempting to flee or elude and police,” and “possession of a stolen vehicle.” Demorest will be back in court on November 8th for a pretrial hearing.

The pair, along with a 16-year-old unnamed juvenile, took police on a high speed chase on U.S. 2 near Gould City at speeds over 100 miles per hour before crashing at a “T” intersection.
