Wildcats b-ball team in rebuild mode

Rebuilding a team at any level is a tough task. Just ask Northern Michigan University head men’s basketball coach Bill Sall about that. When Sall took the job earlier this year, he didn’t even have five players on the roster.

After a quick spring and summer on the road recruiting, Coach Sall now has a full roster of fifteen players to work with. Twelve of those players made their debut as a member of the NMU basketball team on Saturday, as the Wildcats scrimmaged a team comprised of former NMU players.

The current ‘Cats won the game 76-65. After the scrimmage, Sall talked about the progress his team has made after just one week of practice.

“I’ve seen a nice progression from day to day. That’s our biggest goal right now is to get better everyday,” said Sall. “We have a long way to go. Hopefully we will see progression throughout the season.”

“We are a family, we all work hard together,” said Wildcats forward Dorrell Foster. “We all love each other. It was hard at first, but we came in and worked as a team. We definitely need to work on our defensive and getting to the glass more. We definitely have to talk more (on the court) as a team.”

“We’re all coming along pretty quickly,” said Wildcats guard Justin Newell. “We have a couple of things we need to work on, but I think we are going to be pretty good.”

NMU opens up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 15 at the Mike Turner Classic at Albion College.
