A Manistique man is in jail after allegedly attempting to break into a Marquette business.
John Eric Rachel, 28, was arrested by the Marquette City Police Department for attempted breaking and entering a building with intent, a five year felony.
Police say the arrest stemmed from an incident that happened October 13 at around 10:30 a.m. at the Gold & Silver Exchange located at 110 North Third Street.
The owner of the business was driving by and saw Rachel outside acting suspiciously. When the owner investigated, it was discovered that the suspect had damaged the front door.
Rachel fled the scene before police arrived.
Rachel was arraigned Thursday in Marquette County District Court on the attempted breaking and entering a building with intent charge. He is lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $10,000 cash/surety bond.
