Michigan voters seem to support wolf hunt
A new survey shows that a majority of Michigan voters support the limited wolf hunt that begins next month.
The Marketing Resource Group and Mitchell Research and Communications put the question to 600 people last week.
Two-thirds said they would support a limited hunt of wolves if they knew that in small rural areas of the state, wolves were attacking other animals and posing a threat to people.
Support was lowest in Detroit where 47 percent of voters approved.
Michigan’s wolf hunting season is November 15 – December 31. No more than 43 of the estimated 658 wolves in the U-P will be taken as follows in three designated WOlf Management Zones:
- Gogebic County – target harvest of 16 wolves
- portions of Baraga, Houghton, Ontonagon and Gogebic counties – target harvest of 19 wolves
- portions of Luce and Mackinac counties – target harvest of 8 wolves.
