UPDATE: Iron Mountain Post Office re-opens
UPDATE 5:57 p.m.
The Iron Mountain Post Office and Ludington Street have re-opened after closing for about four hours Tuesday afternoon due to an unattended briefcase.
The Iron Mountain Police Department says they were dispatched to the post office just before 1:30 Tuesday afternoon after a briefcase was left in the lobby.
U.S. Postal Inspectors were called and were at the scene when the owner of the briefcase returned around 4 p.m. It was determined that the briefcase posed no threat. As a precaution, the post office and Ludington Street were closed.
The Iron Mountain Department of Works assisted at the scene with barricades for traffic control.
