Marquette County CROP Hunger Walk
Marquette County residents stepped out onto the Iron Ore Heritage Trail Sunday to fight hunger.
The fifth annual Marquette County CROP Hunger Walk began at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming. Members of Marquette County churches and other area residents walked three miles along the trail to Negaunee and back again.
Some of the donations they collected go to Church World Service, an organization that fights hunger around the globe, and some of the money goes to hunger-fighting programs in Marquette County.
Last year’s event attracted a hundred walkers. Organizers were hoping to outdo that total this year, and it appears that they did.
‘CROP’ stands for ‘Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty’.
