UPDATE: Two-car accident sends vehicles hundreds of yards apart

UPDATE: October 3rd, 3:40 p.m.

The Negaunee Police have released the names of the two drivers from Wednesday night’s accident on US-41. It happened at 6 p.m. near the Oak Street intersection.

Police say 46-year-old Donna Jacisin of Marquette was heading west in a Chrysler Pacifica when she saw a cart in the roadway.

When she braked to avoid the cart, she was rear-ended by a Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by 49-year-old Kurt Waters of Negaunee.

Police, firefighters and EMTs needed to use the Jaws of Life to remove Jacisin from her vehicle. She was treated at Marquette General Hospital and released.

Waters was not hurt. Police found him at fault and will give him a speeding ticket.

A bizarre two-car accident on U.S. 41 in Negaunee left both vehicles hundreds of yards apart, on either side of the road.

It happened around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night near the intersection of U.S. 41 and Oak Street. Eyewitness reports indicate that a woman attempting to merge westbound on U.S. 41 off of Oak Street, in a Chrysler Pacifica, drove into the path of white pickup truck heading in the same direction. The truck allegedly rear-ended the Pacifica in the process sending it across two lanes of traffic onto the north side of the highway.

The woman was then trapped inside the vehicle, forcing emergency personnel to use the Jaws of Life to cut off the doors and safely remove her without doing further damage to her back and neck. She was then transported to Bell Hospital for treatment.

The extent and severity of her injuries and those of the pickup truck driver are still unknown. Negaunee City Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and will release further details sometime tomorrow. Personnel from Marquette County Rescue Unit 131, the Negaunee Fire Department, and Bell Hospital EMS assisted on scene.
